PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS

AT THE 14TH RAI INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF ETHNOGRAPHIC FILM

Anthropology, Genocide and Imagery

Prof André Singer, President of the Royal Anthropological Institute

Tuesday 16 June at 4.30 pm

The anthropological literature about genocide is sparse although the subject matter of huge relevance in the 20th and 21st centuries. Film imagery has transformed the information being presented to both scholars and the public and has impacted on how we now perceive the subject ranging from deliberate ethnic eradication, to the Holocaust, to subsequent examples in Cambodia, Indonesia, Rwanda or elsewhere. This lecture uses visual examples to look in more depth at such extreme human behaviour; an area where anthropology has often been mute.

This event is free, but tickets must be booked if you are not registered for the Film Festival. To book tickets please go to http://andresinger.eventbrite.co.uk
