Karin Barber Day

Deadline: 1 December 2019
Date of Event: Thursday 30 April 2020
Location: Royal Anthropological Institute, 50 Fitzroy Street, London W1T 5BT

Professor Karin Barber was recently awarded the Presidential life-time achievement award at the RAI’s AGM. This is a new award, the first recipient of which was Professor David Parkin. As part of these awards, we intend to hold a day at the RAI discussing the work of the recipient. On this occasion, it will take place on 30 April 2020.

Professor Barber’s work centres on culture, language and performance in sub-Saharan Africa, and we would like to invite any Fellow who has found her work of particular interest to propose a relevant paper for that day. It is likely that papers will last for 30 mins, followed by discussion. It would be most useful if we could have proposed titles and abstracts by 1 December 2019, so that we can plan ahead.

More information about the work of Professor Barber can be found here: https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/staff/profiles/dasa/barber-karin.aspx

Proposals please should be sent to: admin@therai.org.uk
